SENIORS’ DISCOUNTS FOR PEOPLE OVER 60 This list serves as a general guide to retailers and other organisations offering discounts to people over 60. Always check with management beforehand to confirm whether any products are excluded or other conditions apply. You may be asked to provide proof of identity to confirm your age. SHOPPING: GROCERIES AND FOOD MAKRO Customers aged 60 and over can register for Makro’s seniors’ discount card, also called an mSeniors or mPensioners card, and receive up to 10% off selected general merchandise and up to 5% off selected food items. Terms and exclusions apply. Ask at the in-store Customer Services desk for details. GAME Get 10% off purchases of up to R3,000, any day of the week. FOOD LOVER’S MARKET Some stores offer a seniors’ discount on a particular day of the week. Ask your nearest store for details. SPAR Some stores offer a seniors’ discount on a particular day of the week. Ask your nearest store for details. PICK N PAY Some stores offer seniors a 5% or 10% discount on Wednesdays. Ask your nearest store for details. SHOPPING: GENERAL BUILDERS WAREHOUSE Seniors qualify for a 10% discount on Wednesdays. SHOPPING CENTRE PARKING Certain large shopping centres, such as Menlyn and the V&A Waterfront, offer seniors free parking on selected days of the week. Ask at their information desks about a special parking card. HEALTH CLICKS Clicks ClubCard members can also join the ClubCard Seniors programme and earn double points on Wednesdays. DIS-CHEM The 60 Plus programme offers various benefits, including double points on purchases every Wednesday, excluding prescription medication; a free monthly blood pressure test if you collect your prescription medication from a Dis-Chem pharmacy; discounts on selected salon treatments; and invitations to the 60+ Pensioners’ Tea. TORGA OPTICAL Selected pensioner benefits are available every day. Ask your local branch for details. ENTERTAINMENT NU METRO Discounted tickets are available for seniors. Ask which days these discounts apply. STER-KINEKOR Join the SK Club to qualify for discounts on movie tickets. BARNYARD THEATRE People over 60 can receive a 50% discount on Sunday afternoon shows at selected Barnyard theatres. Contact the theatre directly to qualify for the discount. TRAVEL AND ACCOMMODATION SANPARKS Qualify for up to 40% off accommodation at SANParks parks. The discount applies during selected months and excludes weekends and long weekends. Contact SANParks for details. CAPENATURE Seniors can receive up to 30% off self-catering accommodation and camping facilities. The discount does not apply over long weekends or during the December school holidays. TSOGO SUN Special offers are available for people aged 65 and over. SOUTHERN SUN Offers discounts of up to 50% for people aged 60 and over at participating hotels. TABLE MOUNTAIN AERIAL CABLEWAY Special ticket prices for seniors offer savings of more than 60% off the standard fare. SANBI NATIONAL BOTANICAL GARDENS Seniors receive free admission on Tuesdays, excluding public holidays. Contact your local national botanical garden beforehand to confirm that the offer applies. HERTZ CAR RENTAL Use the promotional code 55PLUS to receive a discount on car rental. Valid for people aged 55 and over. AA (AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION) Discounted membership is available. TIGER WHEEL & TYRE Seniors qualify for a discount on Tuesdays. MUNICIPAL RATES Pensioners can apply for a rebate on their property rates. Contact your local municipality and complete and submit the required documentation. TELEVISION LICENCES People receiving a SASSA grant, or seniors over 70, can apply for a concessionary television licence at R74 per year, instead of the standard annual fee of R265.
